A man has been captured on camera appearing to throw a cat off a quarry ledge, leaving it to plunge hundreds of feet into the water below.
Watchers of the Snapchat clip were left stunned after the alarming footage, which was filmed in Carnforth, Lancashire, went viral.
The screen-recorded video appears to show a youth throwing a black and white cat off the steep ledge of what looks like a former quarry, while a second youngster looks on in the background.

As the video ends, the boy moves nearer to the edge of the overhang and watches as the cat splashes into the water beneath, and doesn’t seem to emerge afterwards.
Lancashire Police confirmed they’re investigating the act of cruelty and appealed to the public for information.
The video was shared on Twitter with the caption ‘What have I just seen on my Snapchat?’.
It was captioned with the phrase ‘disgusting’ and the screen recording racked up more than 2,000 likes, quotes and retweets on the popular social media platform.
Users were quick to communicate their views in the comments, with many voicing their disgust over the disgusting footage.
One said that they hoped these people get named and shamed and get a good kicking.
A second agreed, saying that they hope someone finds the little f**king scruff and launches him.
A third added that this actually deserved jail time.
A fourth said that they were going to cry.
The user who shared the post agreed with the horrified comments, saying it was dreadful.
Meanwhile, others theorised that the cat may have already been dead before the abusive act, despite others believing it to be alive.
One user said that they thought the cat was already dead and in rigour mortis but couldn’t say how it had died though.
Lancashire Police replied to the tweet and wrote that they thanked them for flagging it and that they were aware and were looking into the incident and where it happened, and they appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said they were aware of a video which had been posted on social media which appears to show an act of cruelty to a cat in the Carnforth area.
The spokesperson said this was a matter that they were investigating and that they were establishing the exact circumstances and where it happened.
In all seriousness, if this person was prepared to do harm like this to a living animal, who knows what he will progress to in a number of years?
It makes no difference whether the cat was alive or dead, this is still an extremely horrible incident and it seriously needs investigating before the individual does this to a human being.
And the fact that was filmed and put onto Snapchat only indicates that this was a malicious act, and to be honest, anybody that can kill an animal is probably more likely to harm a person because they’re missing that empathy and have something missing from their emotions. Isn’t this how serial killers start off? And this kind of wickedness will only go a step further with every prospective crime that he perpetrates until no one is safe.
