With expectations for a royal ceasefire soaring, Prince Harry arrived in Britain by himself to be by King Charles’ side following his father’s shocking cancer news.
The Duke of Sussex is thought to have landed at London Heathrow after travelling by British Airways; however, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet have remained in California.
Harry boarded the 11-hour flight hours after Charles revealed he was ill.
But the Duchess of Sussex is believed to be at their Montecito mansion with their two children, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, despite the threat of floods due to extreme weather in California this week.
After Harry’s transatlantic flight, many are hoping that his return to Britain will serve as a means of mending his differences with King Charles and an opportunity to reconnect with his brother, Prince William.
His father is believed to be resting at Clarence House today ahead of treatment, with Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, seen leaving after a visit this morning. It is not known if Harry will stay in central London to be close to the King or stay at Windsor, most likely at the empty Frogmore Cottage.
Experts have said that they hope that Harry’s trip to Britain is the ‘sign of a truce’ and that the ‘good news’ of healing the rift in the Royal Family could come from the ‘bad news’ about the King’s health.
To be with his father, Harry flew from LAX to London yesterday night. After Charles personally called to inform him of the tragic news, the Duke of Sussex quickly boarded an aircraft to arrive in the UK later today.
A luxury Range Rover believed to be carrying the British royal was seen arriving at LAX’s VIP terminal last night, and he boarded the earliest flight so he could be in London by lunchtime on Tuesday.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: ‘I’m sure Harry will put aside the past right now for this serious issue. For the Royal family, including the Sussexes, it’s so important that everyone is pulling in the right direction’.
Kristina Kyriacou, the King’s former press secretary, said today: ‘Charles adores Harry. He didn’t want any of this estrangement. If, out of bad news, some good news comes and Harry, the King, the Queen and his brother are reunited, how wonderful’
In Spare, Harry had revealed that Charles had urged his warring sons: ‘Please boys, don’t make my final years a misery.’
But this is about his father, not about Harry.
However, the hurtful remarks made about Harry reveal more about ourselves than about him, and anything that’s been said and done in the past doesn’t matter in these moments, and I would imagine there will be lots of hugs and maybe some tears.
When it comes down to it, Harry is King Charle’s son, and that love is unconditional. Charles will probably be really happy to see him. After all, this is just a son who loves his father deeply and has flown home immediately to show how much he cares.
Harry would have been attacked, no matter what he did in this situation. If he hadn’t rushed to visit, the commentators would have called him cruel, but when he does hop on a plane, his rush to see his sick father is questioned. He’s damned if he does, and don’t if he don’t.
This isn’t the time for snide comments, and those who do have no empathy don’t have a whole lot going on in their lives, I would guess.
