The Metropolitan Police Arrests And Suspends Rishi Sunak’s Bodyguard

A bodyguard of Rishi Sunak has been arrested in an investigation over alleged election date bets, it has been revealed.

An officer working as part of the Prime Minister’s close protection crew was suspended and later arrested by the Metropolitan Police.

The Gambling Commission contacted the Met last Friday, stating that it was looking into claims made by a police constable from its royal and specialised protection command, as the BBC initially revealed.

The Met said the matter was ‘immediately referred to officers in the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, who opened an investigation, and the officer was also removed from operational duties’.

On Monday, the officer was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The individual was taken into custody and later bailed, with further inquiries pending.

A Met Police spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that on Friday, 14 June, the Met was contacted by the Gambling Commission, who informed us that they were investigating alleged bets made by a Police Constable from the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command, which were related to the timing of the General Election.

‘The matter was immediately referred to officers in the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, who opened an investigation, and the officer was also removed from operational duties.

‘The officer was subsequently arrested on Monday 17, June on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was taken into custody and bailed, pending further inquiries. The matter has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

‘The Gambling Commission continues to lead the investigation into the alleged betting offences, and our investigation is running in parallel to that.’

The Gambling Commission has said it is investigating ‘the possibility of offences concerning the date of the election’.

A spokesperson said, ‘The Gambling Commission regulates gambling in the interests of consumers and the wider public.

‘Currently, the commission is investigating the possibility of offences concerning the date of the election.

‘This is an ongoing investigation, and the commission cannot provide any further details at this time.’

Responding to Rishi Sunak’s protection officer being arrested over alleged election date bets, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper said: ‘Rishi Sunak must call a Cabinet Office inquiry into what is shaping up to be yet another scandal at the heart of Government.

‘This stinks of yet more sleaze and answers are needed.

‘An inquiry is needed to understand who knew what and when.’

It just goes to show how thick this officer must have been. He was in a position of authority, yet he’s putting bets on, and if he isn’t sacked, he will probably later become commissioner.

If Gilbert and Sullivan were still alive today, they’d have a field day writing an operetta about our current state of British politics, and it’s about to get a whole lot more ridiculous with Nigel Farage if he gets into power. If you thought the markets reacted badly to Liz Truss, you haven’t seen anything yet!

The fact that this country is incapable of functioning is hardly shocking. It is a disgrace that there doesn’t seem to be a single honest MP or public servant.

It’s the end of your term as prime minister, Rishi Sunak. I have a better chance of signing a five-year deal with Manchester City than Sunak getting re-elected by the British public.

Bent from top to bottom, Sunak represents the snake’s head, but yet it’s another day, another disaster!

My vision on life is pretty broad, therefore I like to address specific subjects that intrigue me. Therefore I really appreciate the world of politics, though I have no actual views on who I will vote for, that I will not tell you, so please do not ask! I am like an observation station when it comes to writing, and I simply take the news and make it my own. I have no expectations, I simply love to write, and I know this seems really odd, but I don't get paid for it, I really like what I do and since I am never under any pressure, I constantly find that I write much better, rather than being blanketed under masses of paperwork and articles that I am on a deadline to complete. The chances are, that whilst all other journalists are out there, ripping their hair out, attempting to get their articles completed, I'm simply rambling along at my convenience creating my perfect piece. I guess it must look pretty unpleasant to some of you that I work for nothing, perhaps even brutal. Perhaps I have an obvious disregard for authority, I have no idea, but I would sooner be working for myself, than under somebody else, excuse the pun! Small I maybe, but substantial I will become, eventually. My desk is the most chaotic mess, though surprisingly I know where everything is, and I think that I would be quite unsuited for a desk job. My views on matters vary and I am extremely open-minded to the stuff that I write about, but what I write about is the truth and getting it out there, because the people must be acquainted. Though I am quite entertained by what goes on in the world. My spotlight is mostly to do with politics, though I do write other material as well, but it's essentially politics that I am involved in, and I tend to concentrate my attention on that, however, information is essential. If you have information the possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination...
