Shannen Doherty Dead At 53

After battling breast cancer for years, cherished actress Shannon Doherty passed away at the age of 53.

The 90210 star’s tragic death came just about a month after she confessed the past year was ‘really hard’ for her.

Leslie Sloane, the actor’s publicist, announced Doherty’s passing on Sunday.

‘It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,’ Sloane told People.

‘The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,’ Sloane added.

In 2015, Doherty—who portrayed Brenda Walsh in the popular programme from the 1990s—was given a breast cancer diagnosis.

The Charmed star said that, despite entering into remission, the disease had returned just two years later.

At the time, she told Good Morning America: ‘It’s going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I’m stage 4. So my cancer came back, and that’s why I’m here.

‘I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,’ she said.

She revealed on Instagram last year that her illness had progressed to her brain, along with a photo of herself receiving radiation treatment.

She teased a new episode of her podcast ‘Let’s Be Clear’ by sharing a snippet on her official Instagram account.

Doherty began starring in the original Beverly Hills 90210 in October 1990, but he left the show after the fourth season in 1994. After the show was revived in 2008, she returned as a guest star.

She went on to star in the witch drama Charmed after the success of the famous series. Doherty portrayed the eldest of the three witch sisters, Prue Halliwell.

Doherty departed the Charmed television series in 2001 after directing several episodes. Following that, she entered the world of reality television as a competitor on Dancing with the Stars and on the programme Breaking Up with Shannen Doherty.

She appeared in the 2019 revival of 90210, portraying Brenda Walsh as an adult.

After co-star Luke Perry passed away unexpectedly in 2019 at the age of 52, Doherty revealed her diagnosis after originally keeping it a secret.

On March 4 of that year, Perry passed away at his Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, home from a major ischemic stroke.

It’s extremely sad to hear of her passing. Fifty-three is very young, but at last, she’s finally at peace, but life seems so random and cruel.

Shannen Doherty fought cancer with remarkable fortitude and determination. She also battled with Crohn’s disease in childhood. However, she kept many of the details of her battle under wraps, reportedly claiming it’s not sexy for a woman to say, “I’ve got to go to the bathroom right now.”

Shannen put up a valiant fight. Even in the end, she remained fierce and stunning. In every part, she was an actress who exuded vitality and enthusiasm, but she was taken too young. She faced this terrible disease head-on with humility and humour.

My vision on life is pretty broad, therefore I like to address specific subjects that intrigue me. Therefore I really appreciate the world of politics, though I have no actual views on who I will vote for, that I will not tell you, so please do not ask! I am like an observation station when it comes to writing, and I simply take the news and make it my own. I have no expectations, I simply love to write, and I know this seems really odd, but I don't get paid for it, I really like what I do and since I am never under any pressure, I constantly find that I write much better, rather than being blanketed under masses of paperwork and articles that I am on a deadline to complete. The chances are, that whilst all other journalists are out there, ripping their hair out, attempting to get their articles completed, I'm simply rambling along at my convenience creating my perfect piece. I guess it must look pretty unpleasant to some of you that I work for nothing, perhaps even brutal. Perhaps I have an obvious disregard for authority, I have no idea, but I would sooner be working for myself, than under somebody else, excuse the pun! Small I maybe, but substantial I will become, eventually. My desk is the most chaotic mess, though surprisingly I know where everything is, and I think that I would be quite unsuited for a desk job. My views on matters vary and I am extremely open-minded to the stuff that I write about, but what I write about is the truth and getting it out there, because the people must be acquainted. Though I am quite entertained by what goes on in the world. My spotlight is mostly to do with politics, though I do write other material as well, but it's essentially politics that I am involved in, and I tend to concentrate my attention on that, however, information is essential. If you have information the possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination...
