A young woman who says she discovered a maggot inside a Target bottle of formula has shared her anguish with the world.
The bug larvae were visible in Rachel Ruddiman’s five-month-old Matilda’s bottle. She had used the Kendamil One Organic formula to make the bottle.
Kendamil insists the maggot was likely the cause of home contamination and that it has rigorous health and safety practices. The company has been in touch with the mother to determine how it could have made its way into the bottle.
The mum says she noticed Matilda struggling to drink last Friday. It was only when she removed the bottle she came to understand why.

Horrifying pictures reveal how Ruddiman found a maggot obstructing the bottle’s nipple.
‘She had been gassy and vomiting that week since I’d started that new can but I didn’t really think too much of it until then when I was washing up the bottle,’ Ruddiman explained.
‘I saw this dead maggot coming out of the nipple and I was like, “That’s why you’re struggling to eat the formula,” because it was like the nipple was blocked with this maggot.’
Ruddiman clarified that she sanitised her infant’s bottles before putting them in the cabinet with the tops shut.
She further claims that the fact that she recently moved into a completely deep-cleaned flat confirms her belief that the formula was tainted.
According to Ruddiman, there is a current scarcity of British-made Kendamil in the US, so she purchased the formula online.
The manufacturer got in touch with Ruddiman on Thursday and stated an investigation indicated that the most likely cause was ‘inadvertent domestic contamination’.
It explains several processes and checks the formula goes through before hitting the shelves, which minimises the possibility of contamination.
You should never buy from third-party vendors because many are expired products, counterfeit products, or used products, and you should always check before you purchase by reading who you’re buying from.
The websites are dubious for drop shippers and resellers, and I would also double-check the nation of origin. I second this from Amazon because you can buy stuff on there like cosmetics and then you check the sell-by date on them and they’re not in date. Baby food should not be ordered online; it should always be bought from a reputable business.
How many times have we placed an order on Amazon thinking something was coming from the UK only to discover it was really transported to the UK from China and then given a different manufacturer name? They are purposefully misrepresenting and concealing the fact that these goods are still produced in China.
Accountability is what’s missing in this situation. Class active civil suit anyone?
There is a good old-fashioned way of feeding your baby, but unfortunately, not all mothers can do that, which can make them feel very inadequate and upset, so please, no snarky comments!
It’s just the way it is, and the formula works just as well for newborns as breast milk does. You shouldn’t view feeding your kid formula as a failure or a sign that you’re not doing your hardest.
Target has to confirm precisely what kind of insect larvae they are with an entomologist. It will indicate if they were hatching from eggs that were already in the formula when they were bought. I would also seek a second opinion because these businesses mislead and employ cunning tactics!
Until baby formula was developed, nursing was the main method used by mothers to nourish their infants. In contrast, if they were unable to breastfeed, they would frequently use a wet nurse—another woman who would breastfeed the child—or give the baby animal milk, such as cow’s milk, diluted with water or broth, or—depending on what was available in their area—a thin porridge made of grains and milk.
Then, for some reason, this supercharged mixture emerged, and they claimed that it was a more natural and healthful source of nutrition for infants.
In any case, we shouldn’t be giving our infants this crap. I was fed diluted carnation milk and my father was fed diluted cow’s milk, thus there was no problem with me!
