Less than 48 hours after his landslide victory over Kamala Harris, Donald Trump is already building his White House to carry out what could be a huge mandate.
From Mar-a-Lago, where he has been enjoying his resounding victory, the 78-year-old president-elect has been making calls and making important choices that will lay the groundwork for his second term in office.
The Republican has already made hints that he would lead Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to retain his position, and he has spoken on the phone with over 70 international leaders since the race was called for him.
His often busy social media accounts have been inactive since Tuesday due to his intense attention. He hasn’t made any posts.
Trump’s recent atypical offline behaviour may be a sign that he is turning his focus from the campaign to the White House.
To fill important government positions with MAGA supporters, the Republican has been meeting with campaign workers and close confidants.
Trump was occupied on Thursday with a significant appointment: the vacancy for his chief of staff post.
The future president announced that Susie Wiles, who served as Trump’s successful campaign manager, steering him to victory, will serve as his chief.
In the history of the White House, she will be the first female chief of staff.
‘Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,’ Trump wrote in a statement.
‘Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again.’
‘It is a well-deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.’
Speaking on the Guy Benson program Thursday, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was also mentioned as a possible candidate, denied the reports.
‘People always ask if I’m going to be chief of staff; no, I’m not going to be. That’s a no,’ he said.
He added that Trump’s campaign manager, Susie Wiles, would be ‘great’ in the position.
According to Politico, a former Trump official is overseeing the transition for the Department of Defence, another crucial role.
Former Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie will lead the Republican Party’s transition to the Pentagon.
Elon Musk and Robert Kennedy Jr. may be appointed to positions in the Trump administration.
Musk has been proposed as the head of a government efficiency commission by the president-elect in an effort to slash government waste and expenditure.
Kennedy, a notorious health nut, could help out at the Food and Drug Administration.
Musk and Kennedy are just a few of many MAGA ‘loyalists’ including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who are unabashedly making the case for why they should be in Trump’s Cabinet.
At Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday, Greene, R-Ga., who has been one of Trump’s staunchest congressional backers over the years and was considered one of his vice presidential candidates, celebrated his win.
Days later, she spoke on a panel on Real America’s Voice and made it very apparent that she wanted a job in administration.
‘It’s important to realise who stood with President Trump from the beginning, never backed down, never stabbed him in the back, never tried to beat him.’
‘And there’s those of us that have been very loyal. We understand his policies; we support them through and through.’
‘And I’d like to see people like us that have done that very much involved.’
Additionally, it has been claimed that Trump will permit Jerome Powell, the chairman of the Federal Reserve, to continue in his position until 2026.
Powell, who was later reappointed by Biden in 2022, assisted in guiding the United States through the highs and lows associated with the COVID epidemic.
Although he might alter his mind at any time, the advisor says the president-elect supports Powell remaining in the role for the balance of his 2026 term.
Top ally Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., is another name being touted for Cabinet roles, including Treasury Secretary.
And Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., could capture the position formerly occupied by Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Trump has been receiving congratulations from colleagues, meeting with international leaders, and considering who would lead his cabinet.
It looks like the majority of people in the US have spoken. It’s a done deal; Donald Trump is now going to be president of the United States, and he has a big mess to clean up. I don’t care for him, but hey, he’s got in, and there he will stay for the time being.
Some people love him, some people hate him, but let’s face it, you can hate your boss but still think he’s effective, and what people have to remember is that they elected a president, not a prom king.
It’s not a popularity contest; it’s about who can do the best job.
But you have to acknowledge that this man has put in a lot of work. Even at seventy-eight, his endurance is astounding. At any point, he might have given up, yet he persisted.
He aspires to revive the American dream, and if he succeeds, he will be remembered as one of the most powerful presidents in history. When he had to confront some of the most repulsive individuals, he persevered.
