School Sells Soggy Pizza For £2.30… But Have YOUR Children Been Served Worse?

A mother has blasted her son’s school for charging him £2.30 for a soggy pizza slice at break time.

After he complained to her, she uploaded the dismal images of the tomato slice with a tiny bite removed and the cheese to a Reddit page.

She wrote: ‘My son’s school charging £2.30 for this…is this normal?’

Reddit users expressed outrage and contempt at the cost of such a meagre and pitiful-looking food.

This prompted more discussion about the audacious cost of school food in general as they pointed out the cost of living situation.

Thousands of people viewed the article right away, and hundreds of angry comments regarding the condition of school food were left.

‘It might be normal but it isn’t fair,’ one poster responded, to which one replied: ‘My child’s school charges 45p for a slice of toast per day. And quite often there’s no guarantee they will even get one either.

‘And rich politicians wonder why there are so many kids living in poverty.’

Giving your child a packed lunch is probably far healthier than a slice of pizza, at least a packed lunch might include an apple or a banana in with their lunch, perhaps even a muffin, but also giving a child a decent breakfast such as porridge, weetabix or shredded wheat and a couple of slices of wholesome toast would keep them full until lunchtime.

Back in my day, a school meal consisted of a proper meal, a dessert and a drink to sustain them, now all you get is a slice of pizza or burger and the cost of it is unreasonable.

Some mothers have to go to work to support their family, nothing has changed from when I was a child, numerous mothers had to go to work, but mothers also knew that their children were getting a wholesome meal so that when they got home all they had to do was give them tea, which would have usually consisted of sandwiches, crisps and some fruit, maybe a yoghurt.

But regardless of whether we should be making our children a packed lunch or not, £2.30 for a slice of pizza is absurd, not to mention unhealthy. If schools are going to provide meals for our children at school, at least make it better than a slice of pizza – try providing food with nutritious value.

Not providing a proper meal at lunchtime will just make our children slothful and exhausted – not lazy as the school would tell you! We need good food to feed our brains, but our government don’t want smart children because then they will go against the regime!

At one time schools had a proper kitchen and decent cooks, but now we are told it’s all in aid of progress, and in some schools they have banned packed lunches which is ridiculous. I mean, why would they do that? Oh, of course, to make more money – it’s always about the money!

Back in the 70s school meals were cooked by staff and they were lovely, particularly the desserts, and the women that served the food to us were great and made meal times feel like home.

My vision on life is pretty broad, therefore I like to address specific subjects that intrigue me. Therefore I really appreciate the world of politics, though I have no actual views on who I will vote for, that I will not tell you, so please do not ask! I am like an observation station when it comes to writing, and I simply take the news and make it my own. I have no expectations, I simply love to write, and I know this seems really odd, but I don't get paid for it, I really like what I do and since I am never under any pressure, I constantly find that I write much better, rather than being blanketed under masses of paperwork and articles that I am on a deadline to complete. The chances are, that whilst all other journalists are out there, ripping their hair out, attempting to get their articles completed, I'm simply rambling along at my convenience creating my perfect piece. I guess it must look pretty unpleasant to some of you that I work for nothing, perhaps even brutal. Perhaps I have an obvious disregard for authority, I have no idea, but I would sooner be working for myself, than under somebody else, excuse the pun! Small I maybe, but substantial I will become, eventually. My desk is the most chaotic mess, though surprisingly I know where everything is, and I think that I would be quite unsuited for a desk job. My views on matters vary and I am extremely open-minded to the stuff that I write about, but what I write about is the truth and getting it out there, because the people must be acquainted. Though I am quite entertained by what goes on in the world. My spotlight is mostly to do with politics, though I do write other material as well, but it's essentially politics that I am involved in, and I tend to concentrate my attention on that, however, information is essential. If you have information the possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination...

  1. That is an insult ~~ Shocking ! Postwar we got full dinners / milk /canteen staffed by neighbours who were dinner ladies — & the infamous whale meat to which we’d all sing ‘Whale meat again – don’t much like – don’t know when …’ (thanks Vera Lynn ) Argentine beef which had yellow tubes of artery which you could have used as a land drain – & tapioca we named ‘frog spawn ‘ , but we had full lunch & ‘piggy’ at the end of the table would clear up all left over. And this was in total austerity years with Stafford Cripps … until 1955 ten years after WW2 over … Thank the lord where I was we had local bakers / fish / farms /smallholdings … and a padded chest for overnight porridge – or evening stews … Granny my mum great cooks. >
