A federal statement announcing Jeffrey Epstein’s death has emerged in recently released Justice Department files, but it bears a date that appears to precede the moment he was officially found dead inside his New York prison cell.
The document, issued by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and dated Friday, August 9, 2019, states that Epstein had already been found unresponsive and pronounced dead.
But prison documents and official reports show Epstein was not found unresponsive until the morning of August 10, 2019, when a corrections officer delivering breakfast discovered him in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in Manhattan.
In the statement, then–Manhattan US Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said: ‘Earlier this morning, the Manhattan Correctional Centre confirmed that Jeffrey Epstein, who faced charges brought by this Office of engaging in the sex trafficking of minors, had been found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
‘Today’s events are disturbing, and we are deeply aware of their potential to present yet another hurdle to giving Epstein’s many victims their day in Court.
‘To those brave young women who have already come forward and to the many others who have yet to do so, let me reiterate that we remain committed to standing for you, and our investigation of the conduct charged in the Indictment.’
Epstein, 66, had been held at the Manhattan jail since his arrest on July 6, 2019, after federal prosecutors charged him with sex trafficking minors and conspiracy.
He pleaded not guilty and was awaiting trial when he died in custody just over a month later.
According to official reports, Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell soon after 6.30 am on August 10 by a corrections officer.
Medical personnel tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead soon afterwards.
The New York City medical examiner subsequently ruled his death a suicide by hanging.
Epstein’s death came amid a deluge of failures inside one of the federal government’s most secure detention facilities.
Prison records reveal that guards assigned to watch Epstein did not perform required checks during the overnight hours before his body was found.
Scheduled rounds at 3 am and 5 am were missed, according to official findings.
Also, cameras positioned outside Epstein’s cell were not working properly that night.
Investigators subsequently established that at least two surveillance cameras had malfunctioned, leaving vital gaps in visual monitoring of the area. Officials were unable to create a conclusive chronology of Epstein’s last moments due to such shortcomings.
No exact official time of death has been established as of yet.
Because of this, we will never really know if Epstein committed suicide or if he was killed, and with no working cameras, guards that did not check on him, and a press release already drafted before he died, there is nothing to see, but it does seem a little bit suspicious – perhaps he’s still alive and kicking!
Epstein had a lot of dirt on the rich and famous, and if he’d opened his mouth, some people would have been in a lot of trouble, so he could have been murdered to shut him up – suicide, well maybe, but not so sure about that because there are too many ‘maybe’s.’ But we will never know because he’s not here to tell us what happened, whether dead or alive, and now there is no jury to convict him. This will eventually get shelved in some government office, and perhaps that would be the best thing to do because if there is no jury, there is no trial.
