Suella Braverman publicly slapped down Gary Linekar after he compared her migrant boats crackdown to the policies in Nazi Germany in the 1930s as critics call for his sacking and demanded to know why he was permitted to get away with it.
The corporation’s highest-paid celeb, who makes £1.35 million a year from the licence fee payer, will be spoken to by his bosses, but viewers and MPs insist he’s gone too far and must be sacked for another impartiality breach.
The Home Secretary said she felt that Mr Linekar’s comments were disappointing, and she told the BBC that she thought it was unhelpful to compare their measures, which were lawful, proportionate and, indeed, compassionate, to 1930s Germany.

Asked if he should resign or be sacked, she said that was a matter for the BBC and they would resolve that, and she invited Gary Linekar to visit Kent to see what the communities in Kent and Dover, and actually all around the United Kingdom are feeling about the issue.
The Match of the Day commentator has been constantly told off by the BBC about his often left-wing tweets, and in October last year, he was found to have violated impartiality rules after criticising the Tories and Liz Truss and has been cautioned several times about his tweets on the government and Brexit.
Tory MP Michael Fabricant demanded to know why the BBC was permitting Gary Lineker to get away with it, and that not only have Lineker’s ignorant Nazi comments upset MPs, many of the Jewish community think it vulgar while other broadcasters are asking why Lineker is allowed to get away with it.
Tory deputy chairman Lee Anderson said: ‘Yet again Gary Lineker has been allowed to kick about vile and baseless accusations, and the public is sick to the back teeth of it. It’s time to tackle this woke crisp salesman and hold him to account for the nonsense he spews. The BBC need to get a grip and finally show these people the red card’.
‘The BBC should disassociate themselves from these types of comments and ask themselves the question: ‘Is this the type of comment they expect from their publicly funded presenters?’
‘Instead of lecturing, Mr Lineker should stick to reading out the football scores and flogging crisps. This is just another example of how out of touch these overpaid stars are with the voting public’.
If the BBC don’t sack him, then perhaps everyone should cancel their TV licence Direct Debit at once, although I don’t presume to tell everyone what to do.
We shouldn’t suppress free speech, but there’s a time and place, and definitely not when you’re working for the BBC – it gives them a bad name.
Enough is enough from Gary Lineker and his big head that floats with prominence and believes that he’s above everyone else – well he’s not, and he should remember from whence he came.
Gary Lineker was born in Leicester and he was the son of a greengrocer, as were his grandfather and great-grandfather, and they ran a fruit and veg stall in Leicester Market, and Gary Lineker, who is caucasian, received racial abuse as a youngster because of his dark features. He out of anybody should know better!
This isn’t even about free speech, this is about the fact that he’s supposed to be impartial.
Unfortunately, Gary Lineker is extremely arrogant. He might do a reasonably good job working for the BBC, and then they pay him ridiculous amounts of money for doing it, and I agree that everyone has the right to their opinion as long as they don’t campaign it – wasn’t that how Hitler started out?
