An Auschwitz survivor is worried and frightened after receiving a storm of anti-Semitic abuse online in the wake of the October 7 terror attack in Israel.
Holocaust survivor Lily Ebert, 99, receives about 1,000 anti-Semitic messages every day since Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1,400 people in Israel and kidnapped 200.
She has also been told to ‘get bombed’ and been sent devil and middle finger emojis on her widely followed social media accounts. London-based Lily and her great-grandson Dov Forman, 19, run a TikTok account with 2.1 million followers, which educates people about the Holocaust.
Dov has been forced to disable the comment sections because the abuse has become too unbearable for his great-grandmother.
Speaking to the MoS, he said that he was trying to protect her from seeing the full extent of the comments. He said she’s horrified that Jews, including himself, feel that they have to hide their identities like she had to in the 1930s and 1940s.
Aged 20, Lily was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau from Hungary. Her mother, brother and one of her sisters were executed on arrival in the Nazis’ gas chambers. Lily and her two other sisters survived after spending four months in Auschwitz.
Responding to the anti-Semitic abuse she’d received online, Lily said that it was incredibly worrying and frightening to see, yet again, individuals calling for violence against innocent Jewish people.
It’s absolutely shameful, and it just demonstrates how society has changed.
Look around you, whatever city or town you’re in, you can see the enormous changes in a few short years with ineffective policies, allowing the dripping tap to become a full-on unsustainable waterfall.
Trolls are monsters in every sense of the word, but they’re not just trolls, some of them would cause bodily harm if they could.
What are our Government and police doing about this? Clearly nothing!
Social media platforms need to be shut down so that evil trolls can’t continue their disgusting spewing of malice.
These trolls, if they can’t silence or cancel you, will make your life unbearable until you feel like you have no choice but to cancel yourself.
These trolls are true cowards who could never have survived the traumas and distresses that this very courageous lady had to and they’re pathetic!
No person who had to endure such a horrible experience should have to go through this agonising process again, but unfortunately, the hatred that some people have in their hearts is shocking.
It’s apparent that in each war that we have, we have learnt nothing, and it’s clear that evil is still happening and getting worse every day. Like cowards, they pick on the most vulnerable, but the fearless should make sure they never win.
Human beings are capable of horrific barbarity, especially when they can hide, using the safety of their keyboards.
This is absolutely appalling behaviour, yet it’s our Government that allows this stuff to happen.
This demonstrates more than anything the evils of social media, and since its invention, it has done absolutely nothing to enhance society and everything to destroy it.
