For once Sir Keir Starmer was in tune with the mood of the country when he said he was ‘angry’ after more than 1,000 Channel migrants arrived over the weekend.
But the Prime Minister was made to look foolish after being criticised for making ‘deeply dishonest’ claims about Labour’s record on small boats.
Sir Keir boasted in an online post that ‘almost 30,000 people’ had been removed from the UK. Nevertheless, this figure refers to all kinds of foreign nationals who have no right to live in the UK rather than those who arrive by crossing the Channel.
The number of small boat migrants removed in the 12 months to March fell three percent year-on-year to 2,240. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: ‘This is deeply dishonest.
‘The number of removals of small boat arrivals has actually gone down under Labour.’
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said Sir Keir’s claims were ‘rubbish’.
Some 1,195 Channel migrants arrived in the UK from northern France on Saturday – the fifth-highest daily count since the crisis started in 2018.
The Prime Minister scrapped the Tories’ Rwanda scheme, which was designed to discourage migrants from crossing, as one of his first acts in office.
Since Labour came to power 38,053 migrants have reached Britain, up a third on the same period in 2023-24, when the figure was 28,452.
Officials have secretly revealed that internal Home Office assessments mean Labour is on course to preside over the worst year for Channel crossings.
Alp Mehmet, chairman of Migration Watch UK which campaigns for tougher border controls, accused Sir Keir of attempting to ‘intentionally mislead the public’.
He added: ‘The PM’s suggestion that 30,000 Channel migrants have been removed is simply not true.’
Tory Justice spokesman Robert Jenrick said: ‘His fantasy statistics take the public for fools.
‘They can see through his smoke and mirrors. Starmer has lost control of our borders.’
It comes as Home Office insiders have urged France to ‘step up’ and fulfil a promise to intercept dinghies at sea.
According to the Mail, Labour is frustrated with France’s sluggish pace in changing its regulations to allow boats to be halted once they are in the sea.
France first pledged the change earlier this year but has still not completed a legal review, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper told MPs on Monday.
A Home Office source said: ‘The French committed to intervene in the water in February, it’s about time they stepped up and did what they’ve told us they’re going to do.’
Ms Cooper said in the Commons: ‘A French maritime review is looking at what new operational tactics they will use, and we are urging France to complete this review and implement the changes as swiftly as possible.’
Ministers have attributed the surge in arrivals to the favourable weather, with officials stating that the number of days when dinghies may cross the Channel has doubled from the previous year.
What is going to be the consequence of this man’s lies? Starmer should be made to make a public apology in Parliament for misleading the house and electorate.
If he were to take a lie detector test he would likely pass while swearing on the Bible, after all, he’s had extensive training and vast experience in poker faced duplicity.
Nobody believes a single word this man says anymore. He contorts everything he says, but then being a lawyer, deception is the first thing you are taught.
How much longer can Keir Starmer last? The man is dull, he has no vision, he has no conviction and he’s a liar. He seems to despise his own country, and the idea of him continuing to be our Prime Minister is so depressing.
However, it won’t be any better even if they replace him because they are all inept, annoying, and unlikable.
The UK is now upside down. The government support those who break the law and enter our country illegally. What do they get? A hotel, food, clothing, mobile phones and a living allowance. Yet our native UK citizens are living on the streets, thousands using food banks and our streets are blighted by the homeless.
Taxes are increasing and a considerable number of foreign workers are being permitted to work tax-free, costing more UK citizens to lose their jobs.
When a leading prime minister proves to be a liar, there should be an election immediately because of their deception – they should also go to prison for treason. It’s time to make all parties accountable and honest.
This man is a liar and what’s worst is he does it so naturally.
So, it’s the lovely weather that these migrants are crossing over – nothing to do with the stunning hotel room that will be waiting for them when they arrive. These migrants, if you give them half a hand, they will take a whole one and Starmer is allowing this to happen.
They love the glorious weather, it allows them to cross over safely, and the numbers will be astronomical.
Starmer was a human rights lawyer, so his mind is set on getting every migrant over to live the life of Riley in the UK and the native population are not on his radar.
However, the British people are not being fooled anymore. These migrants are roaming our high streets all over the UK and you can see the infiltration of foreigners with no checks and no consequences of being allowed to remain in this country. We are doomed unless somebody in government is bold enough to grasp the nettle and risk being called names to just get them out NOW!
