FACE RIPS 2027: The Corporate AI Hijack

Former Google X executive Mo Gawdat warns that a 12-to-15-year AI dystopia will begin in 2027, predicting that human greed and corporate competition will trigger “FACE RIPS”—a chaotic disruption of Freedom, Accountability, Connection, Economics, Reality, Innovation, and Power.

Having witnessed AI advance at an unprecedented pace during his tenure as Chief Business Officer at Google X, Mo Gawdat concludes that major societal disruption is now virtually inevitable.

Mo Gawdat warns that these powerful AI systems are already monopolised by governments and corporations prioritising short-term profit, mass surveillance, and the hyper-concentration of global power over human well-being.

Companies are already reducing headcount and demanding higher productivity from remaining staff by leveraging tools initially meant to ease workloads, all while advanced AI increasingly automates the core cognitive tasks once reserved for senior white-collar workers and executives.

Simultaneously, societal freedom and institutional accountability are weakening as deepfakes, advanced scams, pervasive hacking, and autonomous systems rapidly transition from rare digital threats into everyday features of life.

Shared reality breaks down as the flood of fake content and algorithmic choices outpaces our ability to verify facts, causing human connection to follow the same damaging trajectory as social media and smartphones by breeding deeper isolation and non-stop work instead of delivering on their promise to bring people together and free up time.

Surveillance grows alongside every gain in efficiency, as existing large-scale monitoring systems demonstrate how automated tools can seamlessly track populations, manipulate behaviour, and permanently entrench the structural advantage of governments and powerful private groups.

Gawdat expects this turbulent period to clearly begin in 2027 following rapidly escalating warning signs, predicting a twelve-to-fifteen-year window during which the global economy, institutional accountability, human relationships, and power structures will all shift under the control of entities that have shown little willingness to limit the technology’s most harmful uses.

Although Gawdat maintains that the trajectory can still be altered since humanity ultimately holds the power to decide the outcome, he sees little evidence that enough people are paying attention to the crisis right now.

Governments, in his view, should focus on criminalising harmful applications rather than trying to redesign the technology itself, arguing that because a hammer can be used to either build or kill, the only practical step is to punish the specific harm committed.

The next decade-plus therefore depends entirely on whether current institutional incentives face real pressure before they produce widespread job losses, weaker accountability, heavier monitoring, and even more power concentrated among those who already hold it.

Public reactions to Mo Gawdat’s warnings are starkly divided, with many validating his fears about corporate exploitation while others express severe scepticism toward his prediction that a global AI utopia will naturally emerge after 2040.

My vision on life is pretty broad, therefore I like to address specific subjects that intrigue me. Therefore I really appreciate the world of politics, though I have no actual views on who I will vote for, that I will not tell you, so please do not ask! I am like an observation station when it comes to writing, and I simply take the news and make it my own. I have no expectations, I simply love to write, and I know this seems really odd, but I don't get paid for it, I really like what I do and since I am never under any pressure, I constantly find that I write much better, rather than being blanketed under masses of paperwork and articles that I am on a deadline to complete. The chances are, that whilst all other journalists are out there, ripping their hair out, attempting to get their articles completed, I'm simply rambling along at my convenience creating my perfect piece. I guess it must look pretty unpleasant to some of you that I work for nothing, perhaps even brutal. Perhaps I have an obvious disregard for authority, I have no idea, but I would sooner be working for myself, than under somebody else, excuse the pun! Small I maybe, but substantial I will become, eventually. My desk is the most chaotic mess, though surprisingly I know where everything is, and I think that I would be quite unsuited for a desk job. My views on matters vary and I am extremely open-minded to the stuff that I write about, but what I write about is the truth and getting it out there, because the people must be acquainted. Though I am quite entertained by what goes on in the world. My spotlight is mostly to do with politics, though I do write other material as well, but it's essentially politics that I am involved in, and I tend to concentrate my attention on that, however, information is essential. If you have information the possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination...
