The Internet: One Pixel Away From Beard Oil

The modern internet is a dumpster fire wrapped in a pop-up ad that you can’t close because the “X” is literally one pixel wide and requires the precision of a brain surgeon to click.

If you want to preserve your sanity, it is best to avoid thinking about how a tool built to share the sum of human knowledge has devolved into a digital hellscape.

The Cookie Banner Inquisition. Every single website you visit treats you like a hostile witness in a courtroom. “Do you accept our cookies? What about our legitimate interest cookies? Would you like to view our 400-page privacy policy or manually toggle off 82 tracking partners?” I just wanted a recipe for banana bread, not a legal dispute.

The Recipe Blog Memoir. Speaking of recipes—no one needs a 4,000-word essay about how the crisp autumn air in Vermont inspired a sourdough starter before getting to the ingredient list. Just give us the flour measurements; we don’t need the lore.

CAPTCHAs Gaslighting You. Nothing humbles a human being faster than being locked out of an account because you can’t tell if a single pixel of a motorcycle handlebar counts as a “traffic light.” The machines are making us prove we are human by forcing us to do free data entry for their self-driving cars.

AI-Generated Hallucinations. Search results are now just digital sludge. You Google a medical symptom or a tech problem, and the top five results are AI-generated articles that read like they were written by a robot experiencing a mild stroke, offering “solutions” that don’t exist.

The Algorithmic Lobotomy. Social media feeds no longer show you posts from your actual friends. Instead, you get three ads, a video of a guy pouring melted cheese onto a raw steak, an incredibly hostile political take from someone named @SkittyBong420, and a “recommended” post from a page you’ve never heard of.

LinkedIn “Influencers”. The absolute peak of internet delusion. Nowhere else do people turn a mundane corporate interaction into a deeply moving, philosophical life lesson. “Today, a pigeon defecated on my laptop. Here are 5 things it taught me about B2B sales and resilience.”

The TikTok Voice. The monotone, hyper-enthusiastic text-to-speech robot voice that narrates every short-form video has permanently altered the collective human psyche.

Unmute for Sound. Videos that automatically play at maximum volume in public, or conversely, videos that are completely silent except for a chaotic royalty-free ukulele track blasted over a serious news report.

What specific flavour of digital garbage is ruining your day right now? Are you fighting a password reset loop, or did an algorithm just try to sell you a product you only thought about three minutes ago?

My vision on life is pretty broad, therefore I like to address specific subjects that intrigue me. Therefore I really appreciate the world of politics, though I have no actual views on who I will vote for, that I will not tell you, so please do not ask! I am like an observation station when it comes to writing, and I simply take the news and make it my own. I have no expectations, I simply love to write, and I know this seems really odd, but I don't get paid for it, I really like what I do and since I am never under any pressure, I constantly find that I write much better, rather than being blanketed under masses of paperwork and articles that I am on a deadline to complete. The chances are, that whilst all other journalists are out there, ripping their hair out, attempting to get their articles completed, I'm simply rambling along at my convenience creating my perfect piece. I guess it must look pretty unpleasant to some of you that I work for nothing, perhaps even brutal. Perhaps I have an obvious disregard for authority, I have no idea, but I would sooner be working for myself, than under somebody else, excuse the pun! Small I maybe, but substantial I will become, eventually. My desk is the most chaotic mess, though surprisingly I know where everything is, and I think that I would be quite unsuited for a desk job. My views on matters vary and I am extremely open-minded to the stuff that I write about, but what I write about is the truth and getting it out there, because the people must be acquainted. Though I am quite entertained by what goes on in the world. My spotlight is mostly to do with politics, though I do write other material as well, but it's essentially politics that I am involved in, and I tend to concentrate my attention on that, however, information is essential. If you have information the possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination...
