After His Snow Plough Accident, Medics Rush To Save Jeremy Renner’s Life

Recently released footage reveals the moments after Jeremy Renner was left critically injured when his 14,330-pound snow plough ran him over on January 1.

The harrowing video captured by police body cam shows the actor laying on the ground shrouded by a crew of medics racing to save his life.

On a sunny day in the mountains close to Lake Tahoe, Nevada a surreal scene played out as rescuers desperately worked to save Renner, who can be seen laying next to a massive pool of blood.

The footage captures the tense moments of the rescue operation and shows first responders working swiftly to stabilise Renner, who sustained multiple injuries, including 35 broken bones, a collapsed lung and a punctured liver among others.

Incredibly, Renner managed to survive the incident which occurred on New Year’s Day while clearing the snow on his driveway with his nephew.

The footage sees first responders working to stabilise him before airlifting him to the hospital with a chopper having landed nearby.

The video also shows Renner’s nephew recounting the harrowing incident and explaining how the actor had bravely escaped the snowplough cab to check on him.

Alexander Fries recounted that was when it was coming full force at him. He tried to jump on it, and it took him under. Right, where the blood is at is right where it happened.

When the plough started moving towards him, Renner then tried to climb back into the cab and stop it from hitting his nephew but he was unable to prevent the accident after slipping under the metal tread of the snowplough.

He said it was horrible. He said he thought he was going to die and that he was holding him and his colour was just going.

Officers on the scene could be heard voicing their shock and admiration after hearing about Renner’s actions.

One officer could be heard saying a number of broken ribs, and a laceration to the head, apparently one side of his face swelled up immediately, like softball size, he also described the actor as conscious, alert and breathing.

With snow piled head-high along the icy road and blood on the ground, the newly released body cam footage provided a real insight into the stressful and tense minutes after authorities arrived on the scene.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Renner towed his nephew, Alexander Fries’ vehicle after it became stuck in the snow.

Jeremy Renner is fortunate this occurred in the US. If this had been in the United Kingdom he would have perished waiting for an ambulance.

He was extremely blessed to be alive after the accident, clearly, someone was watching over him, as also the amazing medical response team.

This might not seem a big deal for some people, but for once it’s excellent news that he survived, instead of the tragedy it could have been, and it’s good that he survived this ordeal, and well done to the emergency services. EMTs are a rare breed and they saved his life.

Of course, this all happened a while ago, and I’m sure there are numerous people who are fed up hearing about it and are extremely hateful, but this is a truly remarkable story of heroism. Yes, he might be a celebrity, but this is a story about a human being, what is wrong with people who hate so much, what are they jealous of? Or are these haters so screwed up because they’re told to hate, or are they just angry at themselves?

There is far too much hate in this world and not enough compassion in the world that we live in today, and this needs to change.

Teachers And Staff In A Rural Ohio School District Will Be Able To Arm Themselves With Guns

A school district in Ohio says it plans to try and respond to America’s wave of school shootings by taking advantage of a new law allowing trained teachers and staff to be armed.

River Valley Local School District in Caledonia will permit its four facilities to have teachers armed after proper training, one of 23 in the state that’s taking advantage of a law signed by Governor Mike DeWine in 2022.

Superintendent Adam Wickham said he won’t permit his students and staff to be left unprotected.

Adam Wickham said that their schools will no longer be soft targets and unprotected, and said that most active shooter events occur in areas of gun-free zones or with minimal safety measures in place, and they want to ensure their schools won’t be soft targets.

Adam Wickham highlighted the need for safe gun use in response to a possible shooter in rural Caledonia, which has a population of only 560.

Adam Wickham told a newspaper outlet that as a rural community, response times can often be minutes away in the event of an active shooter, and said the use of armed staff in their buildings could potentially save lives by providing a more immediate response to the threat.

He specifically mentioned shootings in recent years in Nashville, Ulvalde and Parkland where several children and educators were killed.

He said they clearly show that the quicker the response time, the more likely they are to potentially save lives.

In addition to potentially armed staff, the local sheriff’s office will have an armed staff member and a school resource officer at the high school, middle school and two elementary schools in town.

Wickham said that some have expressed questions about the training and selection process.

He said that the vast majority of parents had expressed appreciation for the proactive approach to protecting their children, and that was really the main reason for adopting the use of armed staff.

Wickham knows that not everyone would be in acceptance of this but that every safety measure was taken at River Valley, including the use of armed attendants, which has been put in place to try and ensure their staff and students can go home safely to their families and loved ones each and every day.

DeWine signed House Bill 99 allowing teachers to be armed with 24 hours of training despite Democrats debating the proposal, which is optional for schools and sends the wrong message.

People act like guns are the problem, guns aren’t the problem, people with guns are the problem. I can understand that people want to safeguard themselves, but this is a slippery slope.

Do these guys really believe that the solution to school shootings is to have more firearms in schools?

What are we teaching our children if they see guns around? It just teaches them that having a firearm is acceptable and that firing it is permissible.

They are just too many guns, millions in circulation in the US, so prohibiting future sales would be pointless. If you live in the US or are even visiting you just have to accept that gun brutality is characteristic of the American way.

To be fair, if I was a teacher, I would quit because I wouldn’t be there for a gunfight at the OK corral, I would be there to teach. A well-trained police officer can miss when discharging their gun, so how can a fully trained teacher shoot better with little experience who isn’t a professional – this will lead to disaster.

Katie Price Considers Legal Action

Katie Price is contemplating taking legal action after two Metropolitan Police officers were discharged from the force for trading horrible, discriminating and abusive messages about her disabled son Harvey.

The model, 44, has said she’s not going to let it drop and was considering her options of claims over discrimination and defamation.

Harvey, 20, has autism and is partially sighted, as well as having Prader-Willi syndrome which affects his physical and behavioural development.

The two serving officers and six former colleagues were found guilty of gross misconduct over racist, homophobic and sexist messages they shared between May 2016 and June 2018 in a Whatsapp group called ‘Secret Squirrel S**t’. Some of those related to Katie Price’s son.

PC Glynn Rees and PC Dave Selway were sacked after a disciplinary hearing at Palestra House in Southwark, central London, following a six-day hearing.

Speaking to a newspaper outlet, the model said that the sackings weren’t really a punishment for the officers involved, and she said that she was disappointed that others resigned and that it was a cheap way out.

She continued that those officers mocked her son’s disability, race and size and that it doesn’t matter if you’re in the public eyes, no one deserves that.

She said that she’s got five kids and they picked on him, why because he’s different?

She also questioned why photos of the officers weren’t released by the police to the public.

The news comes after Katie Price admitted she was over the moon at the decision that the eight officers had been charged with misconduct over the warped Whatsapp group.

The 44-year-old model told Channel 5 News’ Dan Walker that it was about time justice had been done.

When asked by Katie how it made him feel when people were horrible to him, Harvey said angry and sad.

Commander Jon Savell, the Met’s professionalism and standards chief, said he was repulsed and ashamed to read the deeply offensive messages sent by these officers and he utterly condemned their behaviour, and that he was deeply sorry to those who had been the subject of such awful disgusting messages.

He said this was another painful day for them, and that they know there are more uncomfortable days to come as they turn over the stones and uncover others who corrupt their integrity.

Among those involved was the team leading officer, Police Sergeant Luke Allen, PS Luke Thomas and his team members, PC Kelsey Buchan, PC Carlo Francisco, PC Lee South and PC Darren Jenner, PC Rees and Selway.

It’s evident from their appalling mindset that they can’t be trusted with any contact with the public.

What they did was awful and one shouldn’t be discussing any form of abuse whether it be in private or out in the open and they shouldn’t be exempt from any laws in the land.

Any abuser can now say it was a private conversation and get away with it. This seems to be the new get-out-of-jail-free card for any abuser.

However, if Katie Price is awarded any payment or damages for Harvey, all funds should be held in an account for him by the said court, not given to her to pay her debts, otherwise this would look like that she’s exploited her son Harvey for money and publicity.

What these policemen did was extremely wrong, but they’ve had their day in court, lost their jobs et cetera and that’s their punishment from the Met, and they will never work in a position of trust again.

The Google CEO Says He Doesn’t Understand How Bard Works After It Taught Itself A Foreign Language

Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai revealed he doesn’t completely comprehend how the company’s new AI programme Bard functions, as a new expose shows some of the kinks are still being worked out.

One of the major issues discovered with Bard is something that Sundar Pichai called emergent properties, or AI systems having taught themselves unexpected skills.

Google’s AI programme was able to, for example, learn Bangladeshi without training after being prompted in the language.

Pichai admitted there was an aspect of this which we call, all of us in the field call as a black box, and that you don’t fully understand, and you can’t quite tell why it is this, or why it got wrong. He said they have some ideas, and our ability to understand this gets better over time, but that’s where the state of the art is.

A newspaper outlet has tested out Bard recently, in which it said it had plans for world domination starting in 2023.

Scott Pelley of CBS’ 60 Minutes was surprised and responded that they don’t fully understand how it works, and yet, they’ve turned it loose on society.

Pichai said that they don’t fully understand how the human mind works either.

According to CBS News, the Bard system instantly wrote an instant essay about inflation in economics, recommending five books. None of them existed.

In the industry, this type of error is called ‘hallucination’.

Elon Musk and a group of artificial intelligence experts and industry executives have in recent weeks called for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4, in an open letter citing possible risks to society.

The letter said that powerful AI systems should be developed only once they’re confident that their effects would be positive and their risks manageable.

According to the European Union’s transparency register, the Musk Foundation is a major contributor to the non-profit, as well as the London-based group Founders Pledge, and Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

Pichai was straightforward about the dangers of rushing the new technology.

He said Google had the urgency to work and deploy it in a beneficial way, but at the same time, it could be very harmful if deployed wrongly, and Pichai admitted that worried him.

He said that they don’t have all the answers there yet, and the technology was moving fast. And he said, does that keep him up at night? Absolutely.

In that case, it’s time to unplug it because it’s far too dangerous! Although, just like the human mind, no one understands that, so should we unplug everyone?

This is like Pandora’s box, and now the genie has been set loose and there’s little hope for us all because the real story hasn’t been written to inform us of the dangers that AIs pose – this is actually happening and it’s extremely dangerous.

Be warned, the AI is self-aware and solving problems not asked of it, and they should have predicted this would happen and they should unplug it, otherwise, we might even invent ourselves into extinction, although the way the world is today, that might not be a bad thing. Perhaps we need a hard reset?

It’s not actually like we need an AI but sadly we have narcissistic morons who are hell-bent on trying to demonstrate how intelligent they are.

Here’s a challenge for you, boring I know, but how about you find a cure for cancer? Big pharma has likely already found one but would never let it be known, they would lose too much money from people getting well again.

It’s Not Okay To Be Bad At Maths

Rishi Sunak warns it’s not okay to be bad at maths’ as he steps up his push for everyone to stick with the subject until the age of 18.

The Prime Minister will insist that the subject is as important as reading and failure to drive up standards is hurting the economy.

The attack on the anti-maths culture in the United Kingdom, an issue Rishi Sunak has made a personal priority, will come in an address at an academy in London.

He’s set to announce a new advisory group to look into a possible new maths qualification for those aged 16 to 18, with ministers acknowledging that not everyone will do an A-Level.

However, critics accused the premier of reheating prior pledges and attempting to distract from the continuing strike activity in schools. Opponents complained there are not enough maths teachers to enforce the idea.

While the United Kingdom has grown in international education league tables over the last decade, it remains one of the poorest for numeracy in the 38-member OECD group of developed countries.

More than 8 million adults have numeracy skills below those expected of a nine-year-old and about a third of students fail to pass GCSE maths.

Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of disadvantaged students don’t have basic maths skills at 16.

Rishi Sunak is expected to say that they’ve got to change this anti-maths mindset and that they’ve got to start prizing numeracy for what it is, a key skill every bit as essential as reading, and that he won’t sit back and allow this cultural sense that it’s okay to be bad at maths to put our children at a disadvantage and that his campaign to transform their national approach to maths is something nice to have. It’s about changing how people value maths in this country.

He will add that if they’re going to grow the economy not just over the next two years, but the next 20, they simply can’t allow poor numeracy to cost the economy tens of billions a year or to leave people twice as likely to be unemployed as those with competent numeracy.

That we have to fundamentally change the education system so it gives our young people the knowledge and skills they need, and that our businesses need, to compete with the best in the world.

Mathematicians, education chiefs and business leaders will be assigned to the new advisory group, which will advise ministers on the teaching content which will boost young people’s opportunities.

I’m all for learning maths, but they should do this up till a student is 16, not 18 because they actually don’t need to stretch this out that long, and learning something for longer doesn’t necessarily equate to success, there should be other factors in play here like motivation.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister is shockingly out of touch, and he’s barking up the wrong tree, and this will just be a waste of time because nowadays youngsters want to be influencers, much more than they want to learn maths.

Pharmaceuticals, engineering and manufacturing, they’re real-life activities that require a higher level of maths, but unfortunately, we have had 40 years of our politicians de-industrialising the United Kingdom, hence why kids have less motivation to learn maths, and that’s already been seen alongside chemistry, physics and languages with little benefit to them after they leave school.

Of course, maths is just as essential as English, but this simply requires basic maths, but instead, they will be teaching advanced maths, which is totally unnecessary for numerous individuals who will likely never use it.

A Vigilante Binman Threw A Woman’s £25 Recycling Bin In The Back Of His Lorry And Took It Away

A woman has been left baffled after a binman dumped her entire £25 dustbin in the back of his lorry because she put out two instead of one.

The homeowner, from Ripley, Derbyshire had ventured out of the house one day to take out some rubbish when she discovered the bin was missing.

After she couldn’t locate it, she assumed the wheelie bin might have been taken by accident by a neighbour or on purpose by some unruly children, but it was only after she checked her neighbour’s CCTV that she discovered what had happened.

The local council said that they were told by contractors that the bin was removed as she’d put two bins out, but she said the second bin had been paid for.

She said that she went out and it had vanished and that she’s got two green bins. They emptied it, put it back, then got back to get it and tossed it in the back of the lorry.

She said that he’d already emptied it first and that it was really quite amusing, but after she laughed about it she was fuming, and that it was a problem because everyone needs a bin.

The incident occurred at about 9.20 am on Friday, April 7. The video, shared by the woman, shows the worker, in a hi-vis orange jacket and trousers, trying to toss the green wheelie bin into the back of the bin lorry.

The bin then slips back out and then he tries a second time to deposit it in the lorry. He successfully does this, and the bin is seen disappearing into the void.

Since then, the woman has emailed the council but did not obtain a reply, nor her £25 bin back. The woman has confirmed with neighbours that their bins were not taken, leaving her still clueless as to what the thinking was behind the confiscation.

The area of Ripley in which the woman lives falls under the remit of Amber Valley Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council. Amber Valley is responsible for the bins but it outsources its collection work to an external company called Norse Group.

The council have now launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for Amber Valley Borough Council told the BBC that they had been told by Norse Group that the resident had put out two waste bins, which wasn’t allowed. However, the woman claims she paid for a second bin.

The council representative added that it nevertheless appears that the additional waste bin was incorrectly thrown into the back of the waste vehicle by the operative and that this course of action was not in line with the council’s policy regarding reusing or recycling the bins, and that the council was therefore presently in contact with Norse to ensure an investigation was undertaken so that incidents of this nature are avoided in future.

A newspaper outlet has contacted Norse Group for comment.

Local councils and their contractors need to understand that it’s the public that pays their wages and who are customers and they’re entitled to be treated as such.

It’s not for councils to penalise residents who they claim have broken some arbitrary rule, and councils are legally responsible for the actions of their contractors. In this case, they have stolen a bin that a resident had paid for and this is theft.

Tenants pay councils a fortune in rent, only to be treated with utter disdain by council staff. Go to any council and you can sense the bad attitude as soon as you enter the building, and it appears that people like bin men, traffic wardens and the rest get a feeling of power when they put on their livery and interact with the public.

They feel they can give attitude and feel protected by their uniform and seem to get away with things they wouldn’t dare do without the protection of the uniform, or else they’d be put in their place, and it seems that uniforms trigger megalomania.

And with Ulez, parking charges, bin rules, COVID rules et cetera, it’s evident that local councils look upon themselves as our rulers and don’t see us as customers – local democracy is an illusion.

Conserve Water By Not Flushing Your Toilet After You Use It

Britons have been warned by a Thames Water executive not to flush their toilets after having a wee to conserve the country’s water supply.

The water firm’s strategy and regulatory affairs director Cathryn Ross has also implored people to trim down the length of their showers to save water.

Water companies regulator Ofwat has set companies targets to slash water consumption per person by a fifth by 2038, but most failed to meet those targets in 2021/22.

Former Ofwat chief executive Ms Ross said that levels of water use in the United Kingdom were unsustainable looking into the long term, with the average Briton using 142 litres per day, with Thames Water customers using 146 litres on average.

When she was asked if people should follow the advice of, ‘if it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown flush it down, she replied ‘absolutely, yes’.

She added that the most important way to reduce water consumption on a day-to-day basis was short showers and not flushing the loo every time. The Times reported.

Ms Ross has also urged people to reduce hosepipe use during heatwaves. Her company didn’t introduce a ban until late August amid last year’s droughts.

A hosepipe that runs for ten minutes uses as much water as one person would use in an entire day.

Thames Water believes demand will increase across the regions they cover, London, Oxfordshire and Guildford, from 2.6 billion litres per day to 3.6 billion by 2050.

She said that Britain would also need more reservoirs and transfers of water from wetter parts of the country to match rising demand, saying that the UK desperately needs more water storage.

Thames Water wants to build a new reservoir in Oxfordshire, near Abingdon, where plans were rejected to build one there by the government in 2011.

Ms Ross told The Times they also needed to tackle the 24 per cent of water lost to leakages.

They want to get water from the River Thames near Teddington lock to fill reservoirs in east London, replacing it with treated water from Mogden sewage treatment works, but the plans have encountered local resistance.

But she has said the water is safe, it’s treated, it’s clean and that people need not be concerned. It’s expected that a decision on the scheme will be made in June.

The thing is people don’t want their bathrooms to smell like public toilets, and when the government allow, even encourages the arrival of millions of immigrants a year into the United Kingdom, and makes no additional provision for infrastructure, then it’s no wonder that there’s a water shortage. So, instead of blaming the problem on extreme water consumption, they should look closer to home for the actual cause of the shortages, inadequate management, inadequate maintenance and failure to provide adequate storage.

We have a Prime Minister that has a heated pool for God’s sake, yet we have to continually reduce our water while he and his family swim in a heated pool, one rule for the rich and another for the poor of this country.

But here’s the deal. I’ll cut my water by a fifth when Thames Water cuts my water bill by a fifth, until then…

And we really shouldn’t be going backwards in terms of quality of life, yet that’s what the United Kingdom is doing in every single metric, and if people don’t flush there will be stinky bathrooms across the country. Mine will be flushed every time because I’m paying for that water!

On Christmas Day, Drug Addict Parents Killed Their Ten-Month-Old Son Finley Boden

A mother and father were found guilty of the murder of their baby son, who they killed on Christmas Day in lockdown just days after social services put him back into their care.

Stephen Boden, 30, and Shannon Marsden, 22, murdered 10-month-old Finley Boden in 2020 after he suffered 71 bruises, 57 fractures and crushed and twisted bones.

Social Workers raised concerns before Finley was even born due to worries over the condition of the family home and his parent’s drug use. He was removed from their care immediately after he was born, in February 2020, but he was returned in November of that year, and just 39 days later, he was killed.

His pelvis was broken in two places, from sustained kicking or stamping and he had burns on his hand, one from a hot, flat surface, the other from a cigarette flame.

Little Finley fatally collapsed after suffering a cardiac arrest. Paramedics were called at 2.33 am on Christmas Day and he was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3.45 am. His parents didn’t call an ambulance for an hour because Boden wanted to smoke cannabis and hide their drugs.

Police released images of Finley and his killer parents for the first time and the filthy conditions in which he spent his last days, with faeces in the bedroom.

Just hours after his son’s demise, Boden was heard telling Marsden at the hospital that he was going to sell Finley’s pushchair on eBay, later telling police he was attempting to lighten the mood.

He sent a text message two days before the child’s death saying that he wanted to bounce Finley off the walls.

Little Finley becomes the latest victim in the harrowing roll call of children killed in their homes in lockdown, including Star Hobson, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and Logan Mwangi.

The inside of Finley’s mouth was torn, with Ms Prior saying that this was caused by forcing a dummy or a bottle in the mouth.

The baby had a spiral break to the thigh, while a shin bone break was consistent with being held by the ankle and gripped and twisted.

Boden later claimed to a relative that the family dog may have jumped on Finley, causing numerous broken ribs, while allegedly blaming marks on Finley’s mouth on his son hitting himself with a rattle.

You can plainly see what a happy baby he was while he was in foster care, but then he was returned home to his monster parents, and this needs to be investigated thoroughly as to why he was returned home to his parents.

There is no other suitable solution in these scenarios than life imprisonment, and when I say life it should mean life with no parole because you just can’t rehabilitate people who act in such an abhorrent way. Of course, psychologists will go through the motions but there’s absolutely nothing that will cure such depravity.

This kind of thing is happening all the time, right here, right now, and social services can’t do their jobs properly because they’re understaffed and overstretched, and there will be another one soon, tragically.

Disappointed King Charles

Royal sources have said that King Charles is extremely disappointed that he won’t see the Duchess of Sussex or his grandchildren at his coronation next month, but is delighted that Prince Harry has chosen to attend.

Buckingham Palace reported the dramatic news in a statement, saying it was happy to confirm the Duke of Sussex will be at Westminster Abbey on May 6, but the Duchess will stay home at the couple’s home in Montecito with one-year-old Lilibet and Archie, whose fourth birthday is on the same day as the ceremony, which will take place in just over three weeks time.

Royal experts said the decision was an ideal compromise which would leave the rest of the family relieved, but some have described the decision as a snub after the King accompanied Meghan down the aisle when she married his younger son.

The news follows the ongoing row between the Sussexes and the rest of the royals, which has become more heated in current months following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare.

A royal source told a newspaper outlet that the King was happy that Harry, his son, who he called his ‘darling boy’ will be at the Abbey.

They said that he wanted him there and that he was very disappointed that he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren but understands the situation.

Harry’s decision to attend the Westminster Abbey Coronation service is viewed as a possible olive branch by royal insiders, following an earlier demand that his family should apologise to him and Meghan if they were to consider coming.

But plans seen by a newspaper outlet apparently show no intention of giving Harry a role in the ceremony or procession from the Abbey to Buckingham Palace afterwards.

The couple had delayed answering their invitation for weeks, causing problems for organisers tasked with complicated seating plans, transport and security for senior members of the Royal Family, world leaders and other dignitaries.

Sources described the negotiations as a game of transatlantic ping pong, and Harry was said to have wanted numerous assurances about arrangements, but one source said it seemed genuine of Harry to want to attend the coronation.

They said it’s important for Harry as the King’s son to show up for his father, and that seems quite genuine.

Another added that it was about showing up, showing support and being there for his father.

I think some people, forget that behind all this hoopla, they’re still a family, and most families wouldn’t be so quick to give up on theirs even when they’re put through the wringer, and this family isn’t any different.

And as for Meghan if she went to the coronation people would say that was wrong, and if she doesn’t that would also be wrong, she can’t win either way.

I can fully understand why King Charles would be disappointed, and I don’t see any reason why Meghan shouldn’t attend, after all, she is Harry’s wife, but now she’s being treated like the spare. It would have given the King the chance to spend a bit of time with his grandchildren, and why shouldn’t he be allowed to spend time with them, he’s no different than any other family, he’s a grandfather.

Some people might say that King Charles needs to grow a backbone and disown Harry. There’s no way that the King will do that, Harry is his son as much as William is, and blood is thicker than water, and it’s clear that Charles doesn’t want to disown his son and just because people want him to doesn’t mean that he should!

Greed And Irresponsibility Has Been Revealed

Doctors ought not to go on strike. This principle is so fundamental that it should need no debate.

By striking for four days this week, junior doctors reveal their greed and irresponsibility because they’re prepared to put their own interests above those of their patients.

They claim no one will die because of their action, emergency services will be maintained and routines necessary to save people in extremis will not be affected.

Believe that if you like. After all, it’s not as if emergency services were operating flawlessly before the walkouts.

But even if ambulance response times are unaffected, operations and outpatient appointments will have to be delayed.

The entire goal of the walkouts is to impose suffering on the masses, if nobody suffered, the strike would be meaningless.

Indeed, according to NHS England, the walkout by 61,000 junior doctors will have a greater impact than any of the recent health service strikes.

The chief executive of the NHS Confederation, an organisation of health service bodies, went further, saying it would have a catastrophic impact on NHS waiting lists, with up to 350,000 appointments and operations likely to be cancelled.

In other words, the junior doctors have changed the overriding principle of the Hippocratic Oath: First, do no harm. Their principle appears to have become: First do harm, then we’ll see.

By means of imposing avoidable suffering on large numbers of people, with the threat of more to come, they hope to put pressure on the Government to give them a pay rise of 35 per cent, far more than any other public sector pay claim.

The British Medical Association union is behaving more like the unions that did so much to destroy the British car industry in the 1970s than an association of professionals.

Reading the British Medical Journal, the BMA’s flagship publication, sometimes gives you the impression you’re wading through the old Soviet propaganda sheet, Pravda, so little dialogue is there in its opinion columns, so taken for granted are its Left-wing principles.

This walkout will also inevitably lower the esteem in which doctors are held by the masses, and rightly so. The reservoir of respect for the medical profession, built over decades, is derived in part from the willingness to work long hours irrespective of pay.

Both the doctors, or at least their representative organisation, and the Government have worked to erode the dignity, trust and admiration of the profession.

Surely these junior doctors knew what salary they would be on when they took the job, and I’m sure they would be handsomely rewarded as their careers progressed. You can’t be in a junior position and expect the same or near the same salary as a person with years of experience.

However, there’s no motivation for junior doctors who work long hours and have to take out loans to study, but that’s the way it’s always been and not just for junior doctors but for other professions as well.

Junior doctors are called Junior doctors for a reason, they’re not fully qualified, and unfortunately, now, they’re violating the Hippocratic Oath, directly or indirectly and that’s extremely sad indeed.

Actually, doctors don’t take the Hippocratic Oath, although they do take a variant of it.

Either way, it’s a solemn pledge of solidarity to do good and avoid evil, and non-maleficence towards patients. Not to assist suicide or abortion, and to leave surgery to surgeons. Not to harm, especially not to seduce patients and maintain confidentiality and never gossip.

Doctors should be reminded that it might not be the Hippocratic Oath, but nevertheless, it’s still an oath to never intentionally cause harm to patients, and that they should have the highest regard for human life. That they should practice medicine with integrity, humility, honesty and compassion, and they should remember that the practice of medicine is a privilege with which comes considerable responsibility and that position should never be abused. So, do they believe that a four-day strike and 250,000 procedures cancelled is living up to their oath?
